Ijen Crater

Ijen crater, formed by twin volcano with Mount Merapi which has been extinguished. The crater is elliptical, because the lava tube displacement. Ijen Crater is one of the most beautiful landscape in Indonesia, based on sulfur smoke billowing crater making the scent of sulfur-smelling around the crater.

In the crater of the mountain is composed of sedimentary rocks rest of the eruption. Cliff – steep cliffs surrounding the crater, and if we want to go to the crater we had to go through the streets around the usual cliff through sulfur miners. Ijen crater area is a plateau, consisting of the hill of Mount Merapi (2799 m.dpl) which lies adjacent.

Trekking route

From Pal  Tuding pointing upward journey continues across the road wide enough to view the beautiful natural forest. It takes 1.5 hours we will arrive at Pondok Sulfur Mining. This cottage built office accommodation in the sulfur can be from the crater. In this place we can buy drinks and snacks. From the cottage is only 0.5 hours of time required to pass a flat road we will reach the Ijen Crater.
